|Collection Instructions||Collect using usual sterile technique. Inoculate blood culture bottle aseptically. Indicate on requisition if special organisms are of interest (e.g. Cardiobacterium)|
Note: SPS should be used only for Fungal or AFB bone marrow cultures, as other bacterial organisms may be inhibited by the anticoagulant.

Preliminary results at 24 and 48 hours. Culture will be held longer if special organisms are of interest (e.g. Cardio- bacterium). Additional time is required for identification &/or susceptibility testing if culture is positive.
