Collection InstructionsUse the swabs provided in the Cobas PCR Swab kit ONLY

Endocervical: Remove excess mucous & blood from the cervix using the LARGER swab provided with the kits and discard swab
Insert the smaller swab into the endocervix canal and rotate the swab 5 times
Place small swab in the Cobas PCR media
Break the shaft at the scoreline, and cap the tube securely
Vaginal: Insert the LARGER swab about 2 inches into the vaginal opening and rotate the swab for about 30 seconds
Place LARGER swab in the Cobas PCR media
Break the shaft at the scoreline, and cap the tube securely
Discard the small swab
Male Urethral: Patient should NOT have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection
Insert the LARGER swab 2-4 cm into the urethra and rotate for 3-5 seconds
Place the LARGE swab in the Cobas PCR media
Break the shaft at the scoreline, and cap the tube securely. Discard the small swab
Urine: Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection
Collect first portion of a voided urine in a sterile polypropylene container
Requires a separate urine container for this test (cannot be shared with non-PCR).
Handling InstructionsRaw Urine: If Cobas Urine kit is available, use the provided pipet to transfer urine into the Cobas PCR media tube
Fill raw urine to the level between the two black lines on the tube label.
