Collection InstructionsEndocervical Swab, Male Urethral Swab, or Urine: Use the swabs provided in the Cobas PCR Female Swab Sample kit or UTM collection kits. Do NOT use cotton swabs, wood-shafted or aluminum-shafted swabs. Indicate source on requisition
Endocervical: Remove excess mucous & blood from the cervix using the larger swab provided with the kits and discard swab. Insert the second swab in the endocervix and rotate for 3-5 seconds. Place swab in the Cobas PCR Female Swab Sample kit or UTM collection kits, breaking the shaft so that the tube can be closed securely
Male Urethral: Patient should NOT have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection. Insert the small-tipped specimen swab 2-4 cm into the urethra and rotate for 3-5 seconds. Place swab in the UTM media, breaking the shaft so that the tube can be closed securely
Urine: Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection. Collect first portion of a voided urine in a sterile polypropylene container
Requires a separate urine container for this test (cannot be shared with non-PCR). Indicate source on requisition.
Handling InstructionsEndocervical or Male Urethral Swab: Refrigerate immediately if collected in UTM
Urine: Urine must be transferred to a Cobas PCR urine sample kit.
