|Collection Instructions||Stool, Buffered (Cary Blair): The sample should include any blood or mucus present|
Para-Pak C&S Kit: Use the plastic spoon provided in the cap of the Cary Blair container to transfer 5 grams of sample into the buffered solution until it meets the "fill" line
Tightly cap the vial and shake firmly to ensure that the specimen is adequately mixed with the solution
FecalSwab Transport: Remove the swab from the wrapper and insert the entire tip into the stool (including areas that are bloody, slimy or watery) and rotate to coat the swab
Place the swab into the tube and check that it meets the "MAX FILL" line; do not overfill. Break the shaft at the scored mark. LEave the swab in the tube and cap container
Shake to suspend stool into solution
Rectal Swab: Preferred container is the FecalSwap Transport system; use the enclosed swab to perform collection and submit in the FecalSwab tube. Collect anorectal specimens from the crypts just inside the anal ring. Indicate specimen source on the requisition
All Stool Collections: Antacids, barium, bismuth, anti-diarrheal medication or oily laxatives prior to collection should not be used. Collect stool in a bed pan or a clean, widemouthed container or plastic bag placed over the toilet seat.
