Kaiser-Moanalua will schedule the test on Monday through
Friday. The test must be scheduled 24 hours in advance with
Kaiser-Hematology (432-7990 x29312)
Patient Prep:
Patient must be fasting and non-smoking for a minimum of 8 hours. Avoid anti-platelet drugs for 10 days to 2 weeks (i.e. aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, Plavix, etc.). Obtain from ordering physician patient's drug history, especially aspirin or aspirin like drugs
Collections from QMC:
QMC lab to call Kaiser to schedule the test. Review patient preparation above with the ordering personnel. A normal control specimen (4-citrate & 1-EDTA) must be submitted at the same time with the patient samples. Collect blood using only a 21 gauge needle. Please label the normal control as "Normal Control" and label the patient specimen with the
Antrim name label
Inform doctor's office of Patient preparation above. Have doctor's office fax the requisition to Client Services along with the patient's preference of dates that the patient can go to Kaiser-Moanalua between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM Monday through Friday. Client Services will contact Kaiser to schedule the draw. CS will contact the doctor's office to inform them of the appointment date and time. The patient needs to take a requisition with them to Kaiser
Out-patients will be directed to go to Kaiser-Moanalua 1st floor Out-patient Laboratory to have their blood drawn on the scheduled date and time.
Handling InstructionsFor QMC Hospital:
The specimen must be handled as a STAT. Kaiser must receive the specimen within 1 hour from the time of draw. After accessioning, send via the courier straight to Kaiser (coordinate with Dispatch to have the courier waiting)
Keep at room temperature. Requisition must have name, age, sex, date, and time of collection, drug Hx and ordering physician. Courier to deliver to Kaiser-Moanalua, attn:
Hematology Department.
